Job Summary:

  • Oversees the delivery of patient care for a group of patients, and directs and delegates patient care based on patient acuity and staff availability.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes and adjusts nursing care processes indicated to adhere to legal, ethical, and clinical standards.
  • Collaborates and consults with patients, colleagues and interdisciplinary team members to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Facilitates and/or provides a precepted orientation experience for all new staff.
  • Completes other duties to support departmental operations as assigned or requested

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enroll in a BSN or advanced degree program and obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire date into RN position. Grandfathering will be accepted between departments and Mission Health entities. Exemptions, or extensions, may be approved by the facility CNO and reported out to the CNO Council members. Each facility will ensure tracking of exemptions should this information be needed. RNs with 10 years or more of experience are exempt.
  • Preferred Education: Masters in Nursing.
  • Required License/Certifications: Must have and maintain current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse License Compact) license may apply, licensee should confirm with NCBON
  • Certificate: BLS Healthcare Provider
  • Preferred License/Certifications: National Certification in area of specialty
  • Required Experience: None
  • Preferred Experience: One year hospital nursing experience


Highlands-Cashiers Hospital is a community hospital serving Macon, Jackson and the surrounding counties. Located between the towns of Highlands and Cashiers, the hospital offers 24/7 emergency care, acute inpatient care, rehabilitation, as well as long-term care through Eckerd Living Center. Ambulatory services are also available, including therapy services and primary care. Highlands-Cashiers Hospital has more than 24 beds for acute care services and 80+ beds in the Eckerd Living Center.
