Ombudsman Educational Services provides alternative education programs for middle and high school students who have dropped out or who are at risk of dropping out of school. A flexible schedule with morning, afternoon, and in some cases, evening sessions means students don’t have to choose between life and school. Position Summary:

The Post Secondary Counselor is responsible for working with students in career and post-secondary education exploration, research and planning; employment skills; and job placement to become independent, productive contributing community members. The Post Secondary Counselor will work closely with Ombudsman teachers, Assistant Principal, and School District personnel to accomplish this goal. The Post Secondary Counselor meets the responsibilities of the position in a quality manner with an open mind toward performance improvement recommendations, so that all resources are utilized efficiently.


Position Details:

  • Assists with student enrollment and required data entry. Implements all policies and procedures outlined in Ombudsman issued manuals in a manner consistent with the educational goals and philosophy of Ombudsman. Participates in all activities within the center at various levels. Provides a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff and administrative personnel. Is responsible for recording student progress and maintaining student files on a continuing basis according to the procedure. Meet with local community organizations and develop relationships for job shadowing, internships and work opportunities for students.
  • Develops a career and post-secondary education library of materials appropriate for the needs of students and staff as well as maintains an up-to-date bulletin board of post-secondary education and career opportunities and information
  • Assists students in the development of job readiness skills and personal qualities to prepare them to be competitive in the job market; i.e., personal appearance, punctuality, courtesies of expression, responsibility, confidentiality. Assists students in developing a post-secondary plan for students by obtaining information regarding post-secondary options such as community colleges, technical schools, universities and job placement. Assists students in locating resources regarding financial assistance for post-secondary education. Motivates students and encourages each student to meet academic goals.


Qualifications:

  • Master's in counseling.
  • Professional Educators License
