Job Output

Under the general direction of the Plant Manager, the Architectural Specialties (AS) Engineering Manager is accountable for providing effective supervision, management, and coaching of the Associate Design Engineers and Machine Programmers to ensure production and follow-up on fabrication drawings and to address project issues in a timely manner. Additionally, this role will be expected to model personal and organizational leadership as you will be called upon to serve as the primary backup for the Plant Manager when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze and assign projects to the Plant Design Engineer and Associate Design Engineers.
  • Creates and prepares drawings and packages into fabrication drawings.
  • Interacts and coordinates with other departments.
  • Manages pre-production engineering information.
  • Liaises and maintains communication with other company internal and external teams.
  • Maintains safety awareness and supervision.
  • Ensures all CAD work and documents are accurate and meet MRK standards.
  • Trains and develops Associate Design Engineers.
  • Works with CAD Team, Project Management, and Production to generate ECNs for accurate tracking of changes.
  • Creates designs based on customer drawings and requirements.
  • Creates material requirements, BOM, and other project documents, as required.
  • Works directly with customer contacts.
  • Manages engineering and design files.
  • Troubleshoots design issues with factory personnel.
  • Works closely with the Fabrication Supervisor to ensure jobs are feasible and can be processed using LEAN concepts to help improve efficiencies and throughput.
  • Creates accurate designs, drawings, production trackers, and work orders for custom projects.
  • Works closely with Fabrication Programmer to ensure DXFs are accurate out of engineering for good end results with programs going out to the floor.
  • With standard and custom standard orders, works with Programmer and CAD Technicians on the work orders process to help offset and better balance workload in engineering/programming.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for Corporate IT for the location regarding details of MRK integration plan for IT.
  • Promotes the plant culture transformation, by balancing the technical and social needs of the organization and leveraging Lean Manufacturing principles, tools, and techniques to ensure continuous improvement to our engineering processes and systems and learning/development of the team.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of Associate Design Engineers (2) and CNC Programmer (1)

Qualifications

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel), AutoDesk, and similar programs.

  • Proficient in supervising, coaching, and setting team evaluations.
  • Possesses advanced organizational skills.
  • Proficient at decision-making - able to think outside the box to reach a solution.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Demonstrates solid verbal and written communication skills.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree Computer-Aided Design, Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience is recommended. 3-5 years of supervision an established Engineering Team.
  • Experience supervising a CAD team is required.

  1. Office Environment - This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. No PPE is required.

Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes a Hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
